Coronet Peak Bike Park Back in the Game

Coronet Peak to open for MTB

After the recent article we published about Cardrona Bike Park running mountain bike operations over this holiday season to gauge demand for a full time bike park, it's awesome to discover another mountain resort on the edge of Queenstown in New Zealand, looking at the exact same possibility!  Coronet Peak are assessing the demand over the summer holiday break. Just a short drive outside of Queenstown, there's a right little cluster of bike parks cropping up down there now, making a winter trip down under ever more tempting when we're frozen off the big mountain bike parks in the northern hemisphere!

We had a quick chat with Mark Orr, MTB Operations Manager, who said "we'd love to be back on the summer scene for good – hoping we get great support from our local riders so it becomes financially viable. A downhill race is set for the 3rd of Jan 2015 – see the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club Facebook page".

And they have a downhill trail with some serious MTB history. Remember Follow Me, and the segment with Gee Atherton chasing Stevie Smith down some epic looking trail in a craggy mountain range, somewhere off the beaten track? Well now you know where it is...! Operations running until the 11th of January 2015 so get down there if you can and show your support.
