Mountain Creek Hosted its 2nd Annual Transition Duathlon Race MCBP duathalon2

Mountain Creek hosted its 2nd Annual Transition Duathlon race on Saturday, March 28th. With almost double the entrants from last year, this unique event has already grown in popularity. The tradition of celebrating the change in seasons from winter to summer at the resort gave mountain bikers an opportunity to race their bikes on 100% ski trails, something new for the 2015 event.  The event started with a ski/snowboard Super G race followed by an all-snow Mountain Bike race down ski slopes. Participants had to make sure they stayed on their feet (literally) if they wanted to come out on top of the podium.

Sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-30s throughout the day made for perfect spring time conditions. The race began with the Super G ski/snowboard race where Peter Striegel from the University of Vermont laid down the fastest time on skis in Male Expert followed by Nicole Murray in the Team Female category. Competitors only had one chance down the course to lock in their timed run.

The twist for this year’s Transition Race was that the bike portion was very similar to the ski race, following an almost identical course with only a few minor changes. The spring time conditions added another level of challenge to the bike slalom course as the day went on and temperatures rose. This element separated the men from the boys in powering through the soft snow and being able to find the most optimal line RedBull rider and Vernon local, Aaron Chase, posted the fastest on-snow time of the event. Rebecca Furman posted the fastest solo Women’s bike time of the day with Cait Fields and Nicole Murray finishing first overall for the Team Female category.

Mountain Creek Bike Park would like to thank all the racers and fans that came out to support this event as well as sponsors Specialized Bicycles, Fly Racing, GoPro, Oakley and Red Bull.

Mountain Creek Bike Park will officially open for the 2015 season on Saturday, May 2nd. Season Passes for the upcoming season will be on sale soon. Stay up to date with everything going on at Mountain Creek Bike Park at www.mountaincreekbikepark.com
