Q&A: Krvavec

Who are you and what is your involvement with Krvavec Bike Park?

I am Valentina, responsible for marketing at Krvavec during winter and summer months. Besides the Bike Park we also have our Summer park with 10 adventure activities and hiking.

How long ago did Krvavec become a Bike Park? Who or what was the driving force?

Bike Park Krvavec was officially opened in 2015 with 6km descent Rock’n’Flow. Before that bike trails were included in Summer park activities. With new 9km Pussycat trail opened this May and other existing trails, Bike Park Krvavec became one of the biggest Bike parks in Slovenia with the biggest descent altitudes (850m). Bike Park Krvavec includes two partners RTC Krvavec d.d. and Sport association BAMbi, who is designing and building trails. Awareness of increased interest in MTB sport and our determination to offer the society possibility to experience this beautiful sport drives us further and gives us new goals along the way. At the same time, we are keen to natural unspoiled, environment and although building trails, our aim is to preserve the natural environment of the area as much as we can.

Is there a large riding community or a mountain biking scene in the area? Where do your main visitors to come from?

Slovenia is quickly developing in MTB sport. 9 official Bike parks across the country serves only 2 million inhabitants. According to German research Slovenia was recognized as one of 10 best biking destinations and has a huge potential for further development. It is located in heart of the Europe. Krvavec is only 8km away from national airport and is definitely one of the closest Bike Parks to the airport in the world. Thus majority of riders in our park comes from Slovenia, also number of riders from neighboring countries like Austria, Italy and Croatia is increasing rapidly. Our plan is to expand our reach also in other European countries and become a interesting destination also for biking holidays.

How many trails do you have in place right? Do you plan to add any new tracks this summer?

Currently we have 5 trails, 3 of them are descent trails and 2 are XC trails. All together there are 27km of trails. As we have just opened this year new Pussycat trail, we are done for this season. We still have a lot of potential for developing park further and we are planning to build new ones in very near future. Hopefully we will be able to offer something new already in next season…

Describe the predominant “style” of riding at your park? (Natural vs. Manmade, DH/Tech/Steep vs. Flow/Features) Typically, what kind of terrain do you have? (Rocky, Dry-dusty, Tacky, Roots)…

As already mentioned we are environmentally conscious and we would like to preserve the nature also when building bike trails. Our trails are man-made but have very natural look. 6km Rock’n’Flow trail flows through the woods on dynamic terrain which has a bolder ride around turns and jumps across endless whoops.

The trails have a combination of rocks and roots. Pussycat trail flows 9km through the woods. Most parts of it is flowing single track trail with some roots, interrupted from time to time by a logging road or dirt road. After it rains, it can get tacky on some parts as well. The easiest descent Bambino trail includes designed turns, whoops and springboards of lower difficulty level on easy terrain. XC trails are combination of mountain paths, roads, and single track trails.

Do you have any events planned for this 2016 season?

In June, July and September we are organizing Bike Camps for learning riding techniques for even more enjoyable ride. On the 19th of June we are hosting a series of enduro races called Enduro for fun. This year competition track will include also some parts of new Pussycat trail. And from 2nd- 4th September we are planning a bike festival where all bike riders will find something for their soul and get a pinch of adrenalin in their wains – more about this event is still to come in following month.
