2014 Opening Dates Part 1: North America

It's the start of April, and the winter season is coming to an end at many of the big ski resorts in the Northern Hemisphere. For many it's already over, and the bike park trail crews are turning their attention to the dirt and starting to clear the snow. As temperatures increase, for just a few weeks the weather is too warm to ski but too wet to bike (especially with late snow cover), causing a frustration amongst locals who mope around the town - caught in the 'off-season', a sort of no-mans-land for ski/board/bike season-aires with no access to any of their life-defining sports!

But bit by bit, it changes. Across the Sierra Nevada, Cascades, Rockies, Appalachians, Pyrenees, Dolomites and of course The Alps, there's a growing sense of anticipation for the heady days of summer. Just the mere thought of the bike park causes your adrenal glands to pump. The muscle-memory of hitching your bike on the chairlift; the palpable excitement as you steadily gain altitude whilst checking out riders already shredding those dry dusty berms way below your dangling feet. We’re nearly there now, so here's the low-down on the opening dates, starting with the bike parks in Canada and the USA...

Canada

As always, Whistler puts in massive effort to open their trails as early as possible - 16 May this year!

USA

Snow Summit Bike Park in California opens in just over 2 weeks time!

We'll update the ones with TBD as they become available so keep an eye out. And please note that these dates are subject to change at many of these bike parks, as late season snow or bad weather can really mess with the trail preparation. If you're planning on heading to a bike park for opening day, it's always best check with them first!
