Set in the heart of the rolling Black Forest hills (think opening battle scene in Gladiator), Bad Wildbad Bike Park is one of the few bike park options in this part of Germany, but it's a great option! The bike park ‘station’ is actually in Sommerberg, at the top of the hill up from the town of Bad Wildbad. The trails run back to the main town, and riders get the newly renovated mountain railway back up the mountain. Park the van at the top next to the Bikers Paradise shop, as this is where you can pick up your lift passes. And be aware that Bad Wildbad is one of the few bike parks to make back, elbow and knee body armor compulsory so if you don't own your own stuff you can rent it here.

There are 2 main DH courses on offer, both typically demanding - the iXS race event course in particular. There is a great rock garden section (with roots too), with a seemingly infinite number of lines through it. And it's huge - the trail is marked with tape, but in this section the tape is about 15-20 metres apart giving all sorts of line options for all sorts of bikes and skill levels! Just up from the start of the DH tracks there is a skills area, northshore section, Biker-X course and an old-school mini dual-slalom track. All great fun for messing about on. And from the bottom of these you get a T-bar lift back up – yes a T-bar! Not that common but it certainly works; just hook the ‘T’ under the saddle and off you go. For the snowboarders out there I am sure you remember what a pain in the arse T-bars were to learn on the board. You will be glad to hear it is nowhere near as bad on a bike!
