The First Bike Park in Serbia - Kopaonik Opens its Trails

Bike Park Kopaonik Opens

On Sunday, September 16, 2012 the first bike park in Serbia and the wider region was opened. Constructed by the Alliance, Action Sports Experts Company with support and partnership from the Kopaonik National Park, Ski Resorts of Serbia and MK Resort, the Kopaonik Bike Park features three different trails for multiple riding styles and skill levels. Additionally, the park also features the skills park.

The ski resort Kopaonik is located 3 hours’ drive away from the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, in the amazing and untouched nature of the Kopaonik National Park. During the last few years, the resort is developing at a fast rate and has dozens of ski slopes equipped with modern chairlifts and snow making equipment. After the development of the snowpark last year, the resort managers wanted to extend their offer during the summer season also with a bike park to attract people who seek active holidays. Furthermore the resort has already hosted more national and international XC races such as the Salcano Cup.

Since the closest bike parks are located in Slovenia and Bulgaria and the number of mountain bikers is rapidly increasing in Serbia and the wider region, this decision was logical«, says the CEO of Ski Resorts of Serbia. With the development of the bike park, it is expected that the number of mountain bikers in this region will increase even faster. Trails that were constructed in the first stage of the development are less demanding and are designed in a way which enables fast progression. »We definitely want to expand the number of trails in the Bike Park Kopaonik in the near future and also develop trails for the most experienced riders that will enable to host the contests and competitions of world class format«, said the Executive Director of the MK Resort and one of the great minds behind the project, Nikola Avram.

The development partners believe that the Bike Park Kopaonik, which has been designed and constructed according to the standards of similar bike parks in Canada and Western Europe, will be a daily asset to mountain bikers from Serbia and the wider region.

Since the park was finished just before the end of the season, this pre-opening was meant to tease the riders from the region who will ride the park for the next few weekends. At the big opening of the park in the beginning of the next season, the park will offer riders a number of new lines and other additions. Because the website of the Bike Park Kopaonik is still under construction, more information, videos and photographs of the bike park are available on the official Facebook site here.
