Bike Snowmass dived head-first in to the summer bike park scene. As one of the newer bike parks to be developed in Colorado, Snowmass is doing it right, and that’s due in no small part to the fact their General Manager rides bikes! They started with a clean slate and hired the best, bringing in the Whistler Gravity Logic team as consultants, who taught the Snowmass trail crew a thing or two about building sick MTB trails.
With access via two lifts - the Elk Camp Gondola and the Elk Camp Chairlift - there are currently only 4 bike park trails at Snowmass. However, when you can boast a trail like Valhalla, you don’t need that many more as it’s worth riding 100 times over! Winding through an amazing old Aspen forest, the trail has so many step-ups, step-downs, tabletops and wallrides, all carved in to the perfect Rocky Mountain dirt, you can just tell that the Snowmass trail crew truly loves their job. Maintenance is immaculate with barely a single single brake bump in sight. You have to ride it to believe it, and with many more trails planned in the coming seasons you can expect more of the same.
As well as the bike park trails, there are plenty of cross country options too, although not currently with lift access so you’ll have to pedal up. But that’s the point of XC right! And after a day of shredding, check out the Ranger Station brew pub for a beer at the base of the mountain. A locals hangout, get chatting with the crew in there for instant riding buddies, and before long you’ll be making plans to move here for good - they’ll make you feel right at home. If you need a bike then there are four rental spots in town, and you can also find bike training clinics for beginner riders, all the way up to freeride specific sessions for more advanced riders looking to develop their style. From small beginnings, Aspen-Snowmass Bike Park is going from strength to strength...
